This week, Chris and Isaac invited Amira Elghawaby, Canada's Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia. They talk about being Muslim in Canada, the impact of 9/11 on Canadian Muslims, and her response to the controversy of her nomination in Quebec. Finally, they discuss the McGill encampments protesting Israel's war in Gaza. They even talk about the Canadian Convoy Protests and whether or not we came down too hard on them.
In times like these, this is an important conversation to have. We all have a responsibility to learn more and confront our blind spots, and discussion is welcome on The Rover's platforms. But please, be kind in the comments.

Today Isaac and Chris corner award-winning writer and law professor Frédéric Bérard to discuss his problems with what the Parti Québécois has become. This sovereignist party, once a dominating force in provincial politics, seems to be courting far-right ideas like the great replacement theory and is following a leader, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, who may not be all he seems.   The conversation takes an earnest look at the current state of Quebec politics and what may be done to fight against the barely-concealed racism making its way into mainstream discourse. Join us for a wonderful conversation that is very pro-Quebec and anti-fascist.

Once again Rachel joins Isaac and Chris as we dive into the work that she does for a living, how the online ads marketplace is ruining lives, and the sort of people that the leaders of our country are. Finally we dive into why there might be something worth fighting for as the crew shares maybe some steps we can take to fight and stand against the rise of fascism and the struggles of the modern world.

Rachel Gilmore joins the Isaac Wylde and Chris Curtis as the three dissect the current growing threat of extremism and fascism in Canada, how it's quietly growing, the distrust of media, and the way that extreme right wing beliefs are slowly infiltrating the mainstream conservative views due to Pierre Poillevre and his teams. This is a sobering conversation, as the three discuss distrust in media, distrust in institutions and how Canada is making an effort to adapt some very malicious talking points from the USA.

This is the first half of our discussion with Amanda Moore, a journalist from Washington, DC. For more than two hours we discussed her infiltration into the alt-right, a movement that has sprung up all over the United States. We talked about the concerted effort to get politicians and committee members further and further on the right elected to office, and the white supremacy at the centre of ultra-nationalist ideologies. This first part covers how Amanda infiltrated the American alt-right over a year, and next week we'll dive into the ramifications of that experience and the journalism she produced.

The court system is in dire straits in Quebec. Overstuffed jails and not enough personnel have led to a crisis. Chris announces a grant that the Rover has been awarded, and how he’ll be reporting on the judicial system in Quebec, how that will occur, and together, Chris and Isaac discuss the problems and possible solutions to this crisis.

Thank you for joining us once again! Chris and Isaac break down the details and dive right in to the reality of what's facing anglophone universities in Quebec as the tuition hike looms around the corner. Here's the secret- it doesn't just affect anglophones. This is a major situation which is bound to have an effect on most of Quebec, from the culture to the economy. We dive deep in, and we give a nice history lesson alongside that.

This week Isaac and Chris discuss Bill 21 passing through the court of appeals in quebec, and the future of Quebec as well as the bill. Afterwards, they continue their discussion with Bill 31, and break down how this will affect and change culture in both Montreal and the rest of Quebec.
Bill 21 is a law that was passed by the CAQ to prevent people from wearing any sort of covering for their head or face, and is a highly controversial bill across the country and in the province. It has widely garnered criticism from the rest of Canada, but is also implicating a deeper problem that has taken root here in Quebec. Is there a future where Muslim people can feel safe going to work? Where they won't have to make a decision between their faith and their job? Or how can Muslims raise their daughters in a society that proclaims something fundamental to themselves as wrong? We don't have answers, but we do discuss it.
